Platform overview
Lens is a social blockchain network combining Lens Chain, social primitives, and Storage Nodes. It gives apps portable accounts, usernames, feeds, graphs, and groups, so a compatible app can use social identity and relationships that do not begin inside its own isolated database.
EVM accounts can carry delegated social permissions
Lens V3 treats every EVM account as a profile, including smart wallets. Lens Dashboard creates smart-wallet accounts by default, allowing the owner to grant account-manager permissions for specific actions instead of sharing the primary signing key.
Lens Chain supports account abstraction, USD-denominated gas fees, and onboarding through email or phone verification. Usernames can also carry their own rules, including token gates, payments, reserved names, and character or length limits, so naming policy can differ between communities or apps.
Feeds, graphs, and groups are separate
A Lens Feed records post authorship and can create, edit, or delete posts with rules on the feed or an individual post. A Lens Graph records follow and unfollow relationships separately. An app can therefore combine a publishing space with one particular follower network, rather than assuming every post belongs to one universal timeline.
Groups set a separate membership boundary: accounts can join or leave, while administrators can add or remove members. A Followers Only Post Rule can restrict replies, reposts, or quotes according to a selected graph, making follower status a condition for conversation rather than merely a ranking signal.
Rules can gate membership and participation
Rules can apply token ownership, payment, approved membership, or group membership to feeds, follows, graphs, groups, and usernames. Tipping is also an account action. Those choices make paid access and social monetization available where a builder wants them, not automatic properties of every post or follow.
This flexibility means Lens is not one uniform social experience with fixed membership, moderation, or pricing. Farcaster is a closer choice for shared cast feeds, channels, and feed-embedded Mini Apps; Lens is more suited to an app or community that needs to set its own conditions for follows, replies, group access, or paid participation.
