Platform overview

Axie Infinity is a Ronin game universe whose current battle game, Axie Infinity: Origins, is a turn-based card battler for PC, macOS, and Android, with iOS access limited to selected regions. A team uses three Axies, so team construction and the cards each creature contributes shape every match.

Starter teams and three-Axie battles

New players receive three free, non-NFT starter Axies and can earn more through play, making the core battle game accessible before a wallet purchase. Each Axie can use cards, runes, and charms; when one dies, its cards may become one-use Revenge Cards for the remaining team.

Starter progression comes from daily and weekly missions or Mystery Boxes. Their materials support part evolution and promotion, which improve card effects and health, while star milestones unlock starter runes and charms. These starter Axies cannot breed, so the free route is a playable team rather than an entry to the collectible breeding layer.

Collectible Axies change battle options

Collectible NFT Axies can be used directly or delegated by another owner. They add a deeper collection game: Meta Morph lets a player replace an Axie’s battle card with one linked to a body part owned on another Axie. The change affects battle behavior, not the creature’s permanent onchain appearance.

Meta Morph uses materials including SLP and is reset if the Axie moves to another account. That ties some tactical customization to both the player’s collection and their Ronin inventory, unlike Big Time, where cosmetic ownership is kept separate from combat power.

Ronin equipment has a transfer cost

Moon Shards can create sealed runes and charms for use inside Origins, but those items cannot be minted, withdrawn, or traded. Adding SLP produces Ronin ERC-1155 versions instead, turning battle equipment into transferable collectibles.

The App.Axie Game Portal links game inventory with a Ronin wallet and marketplace. Depositing a rune or charm burns its token and starts a 24-hour withdrawal restriction; minting or withdrawing it again uses AXS. Deposited SLP is also locked for three days before it can return to the wallet, so moving equipment between play and trading is not frictionless.
